Verdict

Several of these are well handicapped, but none more so than Blackheath, who is 10lb lower in the ratings than for the last time he visited the winner's circle. Loyal Tycoon, Louisiade and Mr Malarkey are others to throw into the mix on recent form, while Indian Spark is absolutely thrown in off a mark of 63, if he could produce something to out of the hat. However, he is now a little long in the tooth for finding improvement and needs to conclusively prove that he is not simply on the downgrade these days. Mr Malarkey is a prime candidate to tow them along and he should set a good pace if he cracks out from stall seven. However, he will need to post a career best to prevail here and others may have his measure today. Louisiade has held his form well since switching from the All Weather surfaces. This flatter track will help him and he looks a solid option to make the frame. As does Loyal Tycoon, who is back over his most appropriate trip. The seven-year-old has continued to thrive since he left David Nicholls and there is nothing in his recent profile that suggests he cannot run another big race. However, Nicholls could again provide the key with Blackheath. The nine-year-old usually comes good around this time of year and, as he had Loyal Tycoon well adrift of him in the Scottish Stewards Cup last summer, Blackheath looks a fair bet to uphold the form at the likely odds available.
