        Verdict

        Having looked a smart prospect last season, Mitchum has produced a couple of stinkers on his last two outings but his presence ensures that stable companion PTOLEMY gets in off a handy racing weight and we shall take the hint. David Barron's gelding does need to prove that he stays this far though he appears to appreciate a sound surface and seemed resolute enough when scoring under sustained pressure at Redcar. Daddy Warbucks has posted victories at Beverley and Southwell recently and David Nicholls' charge had Regal Acclaim behind when they met over C&D. Blue Top has to race from out of the handicap but he kept on well in the aforementioned contest and cheekpieces replace blinkers. Poontoon was raised 6lb for finishing second in a Hamilton event, though he had been allocated a plater's mark following three inauspicious runs in maiden company.
