Verdict
The second division of the seven furlong maiden and it looks the stronger heat. The interesting newcomers include Forward Planning, Severio and Wood Fairy, but they may all have to go some to peg back BATTLE ROYAL who can put his experience to good use. Although qualified for handicaps after this run and therefore edged with a note of caution, the selection has shown some ability in two starts and this looks an easier assignment than he has so far faced. On his final run last year he was beaten by Cloudy Start (now rated 106) and if he has improved from two to three then he should run a good race. Crimson Mist and Safari Song strike as the type who may be of more interest in handicaps in due course, whilst Light Sleeper looks to have the better form and he has already proven that a soft surface holds no fears. Forward Planning is by Orientate, a popular sire in America but not seen much over here, whilst Severio comes from a yard who are capable of providing debutant winners and his trainer should have a good line on Light Sleeper through his horse Aahaykid who beat him on debut. Wood Fairy must be interest with the yard still in top form and this daughter of Haafhd is a half-sister to Franklin Gardens. Haafhd's progeny tend to improve with time but the dam was a seven furlong winner at three and she warrants utmost respect. Tricky stuff for the punter again but we will side with Battle Royal.
