Verdict

Christmas In April has already won the Sussex and Devon Nationals this season so bids for a unique hat-trick. A further 8lb rise is not ideal but neither trip nor conditions should hold any fears. De Rasher Counter won the Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury in November and is back in a handicap having failed to make any impact in the Grade 2 Cotswold Chase in January. Truckers Lodge and Prime Venture were second and fourth respectively in the Welsh Grand National over Christmas but the latter is now 0-11 over fences, though was fourth here last year. Petite Power is a stout stayer with a feather weight and arrives off the back of a fair third in the Classic Chase at Warwick while Dominateur has decent novice form and should appreciate the step up in trip. CAPTAIN DRAKE (NAP) has looked ready for a marathon trip for a while having placed over 3m2f over hurdles. He’s won both previous starts on heavy going and is weighted to go close here if handling these tricky fences with Bryan Carver good value for his 5lb claim. Irish raider Se Mo Laoch also loves the mud and has won at Fairyhouse and Navan this term so can’t be ignored.
