In depth

Verdict

The ground has gone against Peter Island, and Paris Bell has only beaten five horses home in as many starts since making his reappearance so both can be opposed today along with Steel City Boy who is up against it on these terms. Coleorton Dancer has been running well of late but he hasn't won for three years so we're loathe to recommend him and we will go with Sweet Pickle instead. She's done most of her winning on the all-weather but she's no mug on turf and is certainly better than she showed when finishing last at Goodwood last time. It's a concern that she may be too high in the weights at present but this looks less competitive than her recent assignments and she could get away with it in this company. She's only had one run on ground worse than good which has to be a concern but there appears to be every chance that she'll handle the conditions and track and trip should be okay. Caribbean Coral is a former winner of this race and is better than he showed over course and distance on debut for this yard having joined them following his win in a claimer. One doesn't need to look very far back to find some decent form in this fellow's past and market support for him in this company would look significant now that his new trainer has got to know him a little better. Lieutenant Pigeon has a squeak on the pick of his form and may still have his best days ahead of him but only beat one home over course and distance last time and isn't an obvious winner. Few with solid claims then but Sweet Pickle may just about be the pick of the bunch.
