Verdict

Milansbar bids to become the first stayer to win this twice but is 6lb higher than last year and would have preferred much softer ground. Last year’s runner-up Cogry is on a career-high mark after winning at Cheltenham while recent Newbury winner Carole's Destrier never seems to run two races alike nowadays. Cogry’s stablemate Calett Mad hasn’t won over fences in more than two years while it took the same time for Ibis Du Rheu to get off the mark over the larger obstacles and he’s been beaten again since. Impulsive Star is still a maiden in chases but could have each-way claims propping up the handicap. DUEL AT DAWN needed his reappearance at Haydock and wasn’t given a hard time. That form is working out really well as the fourth and sixth have both won in the past week and Alex Hales’ charge was second in the novice chase on this card 12 months ago. Earlier novice form puts the nine-year-old on a par with Ladbrokes Trophy winner Sizing Tennessee so he looks very well treated on a mark of 137. Ultragold seemed to stay the 3m2f at Aintree but this will test his stamina even more.
