Alan King has a strong hand in the juvenile hurdling division and his former Sir Mark Prescott-trained FIRE FIGHTER could be good enough here after staying on stoutly to be only beaten half a length on his Sandown debut. He can only improve for that pleasing run and is just preferred to the debutant Shalloon. Anything trained by John Ferguson this season needs to be accorded the greatest respect and this former Mark Johnston inmate was more than useful on the Flat last year, obliging at Ripon and Sandown. He rates a potent threat, whilst Nova Sam, a French recruit for Philip Hobbs, should improve on a solid if unspectacular Ludlow debut. Black Pond represents the Henderson yard but will need to improve on his rather modest Flat form of last year.
