Verdict
Finding a needle in a haystack would be easier than finding a winner here, but Ashgar gets the TEAMtalk nod, especially if he can handle the heavy ground. He won a novice chase in good style in May and won twice over hurdles at Ludlow this time last year. He also ran a decent race over 2m 7f at this course last time out, but he has never raced on soft ground, which is a worry. However, Ashgar is the class compared to his opposition. The only serious rival looks to be Aston Mara. He hasn't won over hurdles since June 2001, but has been placed a couple of times since, including once on soft ground at Market Rasen, and he should appreciate the trip. He also has Dominic Elsworth on board, and he's been riding horses into the places and victory regularly recently. Dalby was pulled up on his jumping debut at Market Rasen last July after some good work early on, but hasn't been seen since; he may be worth watching for improvement. Tindles Bible might be in with a shout. He was a useful juvenile hurdler, placed three times, and since done well in hunter chases. However, when he ran here a fortnight ago he was pulled up when tailed off early on, which doesn't bode well. Foggy is proven on soft ground, but hasn't had his head in front since March 2000 and has been well-beaten in all starts since then. Bint St James is completely unreliable, while Alderley Edge has also been pasted in all his starts over hurdles.
