In depth
Verdict
Pretty modest stuff by Wincanton standards and the market looks to be the best guide. Top weight, Short Change was brought down in a decent novice at Cheltenham. Rated 101, he looks to be difficult to place in handicap company and that probably explains why he's here. The suspicion is that he probably is better on a faster surface and although we can't crab his previous form, we will look elsewhere today. Comments that similarly apply to Dizzy Tart. Jonjo O'Neill's debutant, Madalyar, looks interesting. A winner in Ireland for John Oxx, he reportedly has plenty of toe but it would have been much more appealing if the blinkers were on today. The TEAMtalk selection is Oracles Des Mottes. He ran well on debut for Paul Nicholls in truly desperate ground at Hereford (Lord Fernando well behind). If he hasn't been soured by that experience, he should gain compensation. Prince Atraf, who was once rated 85 on the flat, should be watched in the market to see if hurdling has reawakened his enthusiasm for the game.
