Verdict
It would be no surprise to see an improved performance from the visored-first-time Quiny Boy however a safer option may be COMPTON STAR back over hurdles this afternoon. The selection has been poor in two recent chase starts, pulling up at both Hereford and Taunton. However his previous second to Mount Cook in November wasn't too bad and now returned to hurdles he is likely to be happier. For a modest horse he doesn't have a bad record over timber and although the ground may be a bit on the slow side for him, this course and distance winner is taken to last home in front. Quiny Boy is the obvious threat although perhaps it looks a bit too obvious. The French-bred gelding has some interesting enough qualifying runs from last season but was then pulled up recently at Uttoxeter. Admittedly this looks a weaker race and the drop in trip should help, but it's still a big leap of faith. Seconditus has not been living up to his name although he has been contesting better races earlier in the season, whilst New Rackheath may improve for going handicapping off this lowly mark of 82. The market may well be a big asset here, but without it narrow preference is for Compton Star.
