In depth

Verdict

River Rye is preferred to stablemate Daddy's Gift and Every Second. The selection should be all the better for her debut effort in a warm Newmarket maiden that is already working out well. She made most of the running that day before fading to finish fifth but the run looks solid with two of the three horses to have run since winning on their next outings. The fourth home was Beat Seven and she won the maiden in which Daddy's Gift finished a well backed third but Dane O'Neill's mount looked pretty straight that day and may not have as much improvement in her as the selection. Every Second has to be feared as he was well backed on debut and finished clear of the field with one exception who looked well above average. He will be fancied to set the record straight here but we'll take River Rye to provide Richard Hannon with a third winner in six years.
