Verdict
A weak event and this looks something of a formality for Illustrator who can open his account. Sir Michael Stoute's well related colt was placed in juvenile maidens at Haydock and Leicester before putting up a smart performance to finish third, beaten three lengths, behind Brian Boru in the Racing Post Trophy on his final start at Doncaster. The son of Sadler's Wells should have little difficulty in landing the odds here before making his mark at Pattern level. Amanda Perrett saddles an interesting newcomer in the shape of Vengeance while Paul Cole is represented by Swell, who is a Sadler's Wells half-brother to two winners. Either could easily prove good enough to reach the frame at this level while Briareus has shown plenty of ability and should prove well suited by the step up to this trip after a staying-on fourth at Ascot last month.
