    In depth

    Verdict

The vote here goes to Gala Evening, with Karnak, Aunt Julia and Jamehir rated his biggest dangers. The Sir Michael Stoute-trained selection has yet to see the racecourse but, for one thing this does not seem a strong race and, secondly, he has plenty to like on breeding, being by Daylami out of a Lyphard mare. The market will tell us something too, but we are happy to side with him. The form of Karnak's debut run has already received a boost so it would be no surprise to see him fare better today, although he will certainly stay further in time. Another to consider is Jamehir, who finished fifth on his Newmarket debut and, being related to the Lancashire Oaks winner Ela Athena, looks set to appreciate the extra distance tonight. Of the others, Virtue is quite nicely bred, and Rafelite is a half-sister to the stable's winner, Tartouche. Aunt Julia is another to keep an eye on as this well-bred filly would have needed her seasonal return after showing promise last season. With National Trust looking like the Sir Michael Stoute stable's second string, and the others having shown little to date, we return to the selection, which is Gala Evening.
