In depth

Verdict

A non-event in all senses of the phrase. The market should serve as the best guide to what is hardly the most inspiring betting medium of the day. Dr Julian is sure to be a popular but he showed distinct signs of temperament on his previous appearance at Wolverhampton and looks better suited to seven furlongs. Little Louis is a course winner but he has done his racing over five and six furlongs. A 1-in-17 strike rate is hardly cause to rush out and back him. Welsh and Wylde is the best in on official ratings. He disappointed badly on artifical debut in a non-seller and is avoided here. Eyre O Plain Jane is scarcely a stable star but her breeding suggests that she should handle the step up to a mile. Pat Haslam is a master of cleaning up moderate events like this and we'll give him the nod today.
