In depth
Verdict
Hard to exude confidence in any of these, but Eastborough has won off much higher marks in the past and is taken to get the better of Squirtle, Sgt Schultz and Power Of Future. The selection is no stranger to success here, having scored over both nine and 12 furlongs in the past, although he has not won since July of last year when doing so at Lingfield and has plummeted in the weights as a result. Nevertheless, John Jenkins' runners are going well at present and we will give Eastborough one more chance in a race that is not ultra-competitive. Squirtle has a squeak based on being 7lb lower than when winning at Haydock in August. That was her sole success in 16 starts, however, and she does seem to find a couple too good each time. Sgt Schultz has yet to break his maiden in 18 attempts, but has been putting in some creditable performances in defeat and it will be interesting to see how he goes over this extra couple of furlongs. Meanwhile, Power Of Future would probably prefer slower ground to see seen to best effect, but her yard is going well and it would be no surprise to see her go well, but our preference is for Eastborough.
