In depth

Verdict

Never Alone ended last season with a disappointing effort at Newmarket in October having started favourite. Gelded since and fitted with blinkers on his return, Charlie Appleby’s charge also steps up in trip along with LONGSIDER. The latter showed promise over a mile at Lingfield on last month’s debut and, with this extra distance expected to suit the half-brother to a Group 3 winner, David Lanigan’s colt gets the vote. Cape Abel can only improve from a recent debut at Chelmsford while Aunt Helen is preferred of her yard’s three runners and Sydney Siren makes most appeal of the newcomers.
