In depth

Verdict

First-time headgear might help WEET IN NERJA get home in front here and we'll side with the gelding to get the better of Valdemar. The selection remains a maiden after nine starts, but he has run some good races in defeat and is competitive from his current mark of 58. He acts well over course and distance, has a plumb draw against the inside rail, and first-time blinkers are hopefully the thing that can tip the scales in his favour. Valdemar was a winner last time over a similar trip at Kempton and has gone up 2lbs as a result. That will allow him to be competitive once again, though he does look opposable on this slower surface. Rocket Ruby has been progressing steadily for Derek Shaw and was a staying on runner-up at Kempton last time. This trip looks ideal and in an open race she would not be a shock winner. Elsie Jo drops back in trip, having twice run well over 7f of late. She didn't quite see it out last time and so this is well worth a try, especially given the slower conditions. Monte Mayor Eagle won a Southwell seller over this trip and was not disgraced from a 10lbs higher mark in a handicap last time, so now she is dropped 2lbs she can get very competitive. In an open heat Weet In Nerja is the suggestion.
