In depth

Verdict

Grand Roche and Encrypt are interesting contenders here but Major Blade has been in good form recently and is taken to continue his successful run on the all-weather. Grand Roche is still a maiden in 14 starts and seems to lack a finishing kick. Dean McKeown¿s mount was dropped to claiming class last time with first time blinkers applied and he ran well but finished in the runner-up spot for the fifth time in his career. He can be opposed. Encrypt looked very moderate until finishing third in a Nottingham maiden at odds of 150-1. That persuaded the handicapper to lift her more than a stone and she has since run respectably off that mark. Lowered four pounds here, she can play a part but a place is probably the best she can hope for. Major Blade won an apprentice contest here two outings ago and has since finished a decent second in a small race at Kempton. Throw in an outing over hurdles and Heather Dalton¿s runner has had a variety of contests, especially considering this represents a step up in trip of half a mile. He has run well over hurdles on soft ground however so stamina should not be a problem in this moderate affair, and Major Blade could well dominate his rivals here.
