Verdict
Norman Orpen made a satisfactory debut when second at Lingfield but the value of that form, with the winner and third both disappointing types who have struggled since, has to be questionable. With that in mind preference is for CITY GROUND ahead of Broadway Dancer. The Jarvis inmate has experience of running on a similar surface at Lingfield and that second to Kakatosi represents his strongest run to date. A recent fourth at Newmarket came in a much better race than this and he's already proved that a mile is within range. Unless Norman Orpen improves plenty for his debut, City Ground probably has most to fear from Broadway Dancer. Richard Fahey's filly ran well on debut before finding the exposed but able Nimue too good and this in truth looks easier, so if she takes to the surface a big run is likely. I Spy Baileys wouldn't need to be a world-beater to win this so needs a market check but in truth we expect three to dominate.
