Verdict

Not the strongest maiden to open this evening's action at Dunstall Park and a good opportunity for TEJIME to score at the first time of asking ahead of Light Sleeper and Simla Sunset. John Gosden's son of Royal Applause has evidently had his problems but connections perseverance can be rewarded here over what should prove to be an ideal 7f test. Nicky Mackay takes the ride aboard the well-drawn gelding and provided the Newmarket maestro has his horse ready to go he can show this modest bunch the way home before taking a step up in class and distance in due course. Light Sleeper represents Peter Chapple-Hyam and is less exposed than most here having only his third racecourse outing and the Kyllachy colt should appreciate stepping back from a mile today. He has shown promise on both outings without looking out of the ordinary and a maiden should come his way in time but today's draw in stall 10 isn't ideal and that may prove too big a barrier to cross here. Simla Sunset is arguably the horse with the best racecourse form and has shown that he acts on the surface having run second in a course and distance handicap last time. That effort was off a mark of 67 though which shouldn't be enough to pose problems to the better fancied runners with a return to handicap company perhaps to prove the best way of getting Jeremy Gask's horse off the mark. Interchoice Star goes well here but his BHA rating of 48 tells its own tale whilst Hold The Star failed only by a short head on her only try over course and distance but is looking exposed as moderate. All in all the standard set by those with form is decidedly average and that should allow Tejime to land the first.
