A rogues gallery at best and CHANTILLY JEWEL can only be put forward to the most minimal of stakes levels with Deo Valente and Madhal others worthy of consideration. Robert Cowell's gelding took a Lingfield maiden in decent style last month and while a 3lb rise may appear harsh; thankfully for connections it still keeps them within the ceiling for this contest. Deo Valente is tried in a first time tonguestrap and blinkers. The handicapper appears to believe that his form has dropped by some 38lb over the course of the season. Madhal represents a yard doing well and has to be closely watched in the market; especially with William Buick in the plate. Lana's Charm and Kingsgate Storm have both got questions to answer after moderate efforts last time out. Derek Shaw is a regular visitor to the winners enclosure and of his pair, Westwood Dawn, seems the best drawn. Pepin would have made slightly more appeal were this contest at Southwell. A race not to linger too long over and Chantilly Jewel has to be the call.
