Verdict

Salient is the tentative selection here to gain his hat-trick, at the main expense of Victor Trumper and Fares. The selection made all on his previous win, and there appears to be no reason why he shouldn't give it another valiant effort today. He sprang a major shock on his penultimate start when winning at a whopping 100/1, however there appeared to be no fluke about his latest win and therefore he gets the nod ahead of Victor Trumper. Peter Chapple-Hyam's charge ran with credit over a longer trip last time out, and dropping back a furlong today he rates the main danger to the selection. Fares finally got his head in front at the ninth time of asking when successful under in-form Brett Doyle over course and distance six days ago, however the booking of Eddie Ahern shows that the stable mean business and so he must be feared. Slipasearcher hasn't been disgracing himself in better races recently, however he would need to step up on that form to take this intirguing contest. In a small yet competitive field, Salient gets the vote.
