Verdict

In a particularly tough maiden to judge we have to choose BLUE MOON as our best suggestion, after his encouraging debut, in preference to My Meteor and Special Quality. Having not got off to a great start from the gate on that first effort the pick then slowly got the hangs of things before staying on eye-catchingly in the finish. He should improve for the run and he shouldn't have to progress much to win this. My Meteor can also only be judged on an opening run where he was asleep in the stalls and had no chance of getting involved. He should be better than that and did well to get as close as he did. Special Quality was also a slow starter on debut but again should be better here while Coal Miner failed to improve in two starts but could make experience count. A weak looking maiden that should go to Blue Moon who might not need to improve on his second start to take it.
