In depth
Verdict
Penneyrose Bay can return with a bang at the expense of Briscoe Place, Mandingo Chief and Always Waining. Connections have always had a high opinion of Penneyrose Bay who was good enough to land the Mares' Final at Newbury last April, making all in the process. The daughter of Karinga Bay handled faster ground when scoring here subsequently, and will have no problem with the step up in trip as she has only her second try over fences. A class above these over hurdles, it should be a case of more of the same now. Briscoe Place has it to do, having won only a maiden hurdle at Wincanton in the past, but he at least shaped well here when third over hurdles recently and is sure to have been well schooled. Mandingo Chief has vastly more experience over the bigger obstacles but was tailed off at Market Rasen, while Always Waining makes his chase debut and was rated a good few pounds behind our idea of the winner, Penneyrose Bay.
