Verdict

A very competitive final of this series which has attracted entries from several powerful stables. Captain Peacock couldn’t get past Francky Du Berlais here last month but is a pound better off. Commodore Barry beat Rebel Royal, Victarion and Whitley Neill here in May and made a winning return to action at Southwell. Blackdown Hills is another who will have benefited from a recent victory at Southwell and Monty's Award looks to have an excellent chance at the weights. Dory won over the trip at Uttoxeter in July and came up against an improver last time at Warwick. The Bottom Bar can’t be ignored and neither can Alan King’s mare Peggies Venture, though she is edging up the weights. LUCKY ROBIN tackles this trip for the first time but was gaining at the finish over 2m1f last time having won twice over 2m2f at Market Rasen before that. Brian Ellison’s progressive gelding may be a bit of value here back in novice company.
