In depth

Verdict

Ruwain is the pick in the finale with Uhuru Peak and Barathea Dreams sought as plausible alternatives. The selection won well at Great Leighs and was scheduled to turn out at Newcastle on Saturday. Provided that engagement did not take too much out of him, he looks well treated by the handicapper at present. Uhuru Peak has gradually crept down the weights. All of wins have been under today's rider. Barathea Dreams hasn't got home over further so the drop in trip is welcomed. Mick Is Back is a regular winner in plating company but struggles when out of that comfort zone. Our Blessing produced an improved effort over seven furlongs and might be worth a look in the betting. Barataria isn't the most straight forward of rides and it will be interesting to see if Rebecca Bastiman can make him consent to show his true ability. Sabre Light hung badly in a claimer at the track earlier in the month and the blinkers have been replaced by cheekpieces. The market obviously centres around whether Ruwain takes this engagement but if doing so, he sets the standard.
