Verdict

David O'Meara has won the last two and has three entries here. This trip and fast ground are ideal for Regal Dan though he's only won once and that was in 2012. REX IMPERATOR (NAP) could prove best of the trio and, as he's dropped to such a lowly mark and had an unlucky run at Thirsk last time, he can continue the stable's winning streak in the race. Kalk Bay ran his best race for a long time in an amateurs' event over the track and trip last month and the form has already worked out and though Gatepost doesn't win very often these days first-time-back may be the right time to catch him. His stablemate, the Ayr Silver Cup runner-up Mehdi, hasn't won since 2011 but is reasonably consistent which is why the assessor can't drop him in the ratings. Green Howard has managed to win eight races though never at this level.
