A decent renewal for this Group 2 contest with the Eclipse third, fourth and seventh re-opposing one another. Pipedreamer is the selection to win for the John Gosden yard. An excellent third in the Prince Of Wales Stakes on his penultimate start, Pipedreamer went into the Eclipse as the possible fly in the ointment to Aidan O'Brien's bid for another Group 1 victory and although fourth, he was staying on up the hill, although one feels the long straight at York will be more to his liking. While Pipedreamer has yet to win outside handicap company, Campanologist was a gutsy winner in Group 2 company at Royal Ascot where he did admittedly benefit from a canny ride. His rivals will be anxious not to provide him with a soft lead but he is a horse of some class and open to further improvement. Multidimensional, twice in arrears of Pipedreamer already this season cut out the early running in the Eclipse before fading at the top of the straight. Tajaaweed was a bitter disappointment in the Derby where he failed to stay. He was the narrow winner of the Dee Stakes on his penultimate start and warrants respect despite the lack of a recent outing. Many Volumes was an impressive winner of a listed event over this trip at Sandown last time but this is a much stiffer task. It is hard to see any of the remainder landing this despite the versatility of horses like Blythe Knight and Pipedreamer is given the nod.
