Hull KR and Castleford go toe-to-toe on Saturday, live on Sky Sports, with the prize of a play-off place on offer for the winner.
Rovers moved into eighth place in the table last weekend, leapfrogging over their next opponents with victory against Catalan Dragons in Perpignan.
The Robins now have home advantage for the crunch clash with the Tigers, who slipped to a heavy defeat at home to Hull FC on Saturday.
Hull KR coach Justin Morgan and Castleford counterpart Terry Matterson also know that a loss will see them out of work - both are leaving their current roles at the end of the season, though they are expected to find work in the NRL.
Last chance
Both men steered their current employers to promotion to Super League and will now be hoping they get at least one more game at the helm.
"We need to put those emotions to one side or at least suppress them for 80 minutes," said Morgan, who took charge of Rovers back in 2005.
"We're not the first group of coaches or players to leave the club. The priority is the club and the team."
Matterson - who has been with the Tigers for six years - admits a quirk of the fixture list has set up an intriguing finish to the regular season.
The Tigers have won just once in their last four league outings, though they did triumph 27-16 in the reverse fixture at the PROBIZ Coliseum back in March.
"It's in our hands and I think that's the important thing," he said. "If we're good enough, we'll get the points and go through.
"It's set up nicely. We started the season with seven from eight and Hull KR have finished the season with seven from eight. It's all there to play for.
"It's been a tough old run since the semi-final but it's a one-off game now. We need to pick ourselves up from what happened last week."
Green back
As for team news, Hull KR are boosted by the return of stand-off Blake Green, their player of the year, after he missed the match against Catalan due to suspension.
The Australian's availability allows Ben Galea to return to his more usual position in the second row, with Rhys Lovegrove the man to make way.
Matterson has called up hooker Daryl Clark, second rower John Davies and outside back Jordan Thompson to Castleford's 19-man squad. Ryan McGoldrick is ruled out through suspension.
Hull KR squad: Briscoe, Hall, Salter, Wheeldon, Dobson, Newton, Fisher, Galea, Green, Hodgson, Watts, Latus, Murrell, Lovegrove, Vella, Cox, Webster, Welham, Taylor.
Castleford squad: Arundel, Aspinwall, Chase, Clark, J. Davies, Fozzard, Holmes, Hudson, Isa, Jones, Massey, Mathers, Milner, Orr, Owen, Parker, Snitch, Thompson, Widders.
