Charnley lights up Leigh vs Hull FC
Josh Charnley scored a hat-trick as Leigh Leopards demolished Hull FC 42-6 in a nine-try thrashing.
After a narrow defeat to Hull KR last time out, Adrian Lam turned in a dominant second-half performance that saw them add 30 unanswered points.Charnley crossed three times and was joined on the scoresheet by AJ Towse, Umyla Hanley, Frankie Halton, David Armstrong and Bailey Hodgson.
The game was scoreless for more than quarter-of-an-hour before Charnley broke the deadlock in the 17th minute. Zak Hardaker hit back for the visitors, levelling with a try of his own after latching on to Cade Cust's kick before slotting the conversion to take a slender lead.
Hanley set up Charnley for his second try and Towse followed him over as they ran in two tries in three minutes just before the half-time break for a 12-6 lead.
Hanley sprinted clear soon after the restart to set the rout in motion and Halton was next, Adam Cook finally adding a conversion at the fifth attempt.
Charnley grabbed his third and the scores kept coming as Halton, Armstrong and Lam all poked holes in the Hull defence. Cook added two more kicks to finish with three from eight, leaving the visitors thoroughly outclassed.
