Super League: Leeds Rhinos beat Bradford Bulls but suffer big blow with Maika Sivo sustaining suspected broken arm

Leeds run in seven tries during 42-12 rout of Bradford to open up two-point lead at top of Super League - but lose star winger Maika Sivo to suspected broken arm with Fijian's hopes of breaking try record for a season taking massive dent; Rhinos rebound from defeat to Castleford Tigers

Maika Sivo's suspected broken arm marred Leeds Rhinos' 42-12 victory over Bradford Bulls that took them two points clear at the top of Super League with the Fijian winger's hopes of breaking the record for the most tries in a season dented.

Rhinos coach Brad Arthur said afterwards that the 32-year-old's forearm will need plating and the former Parramatta Eels star is likely to be sidelined for around six weeks.

Sivo is currently on 29 tries for the Super League campaign with the record number of touchdowns in one season the 40 amassed by Castleford's Denny Solomona in 2016.

Sivo, who is expected back before the end of the regular season, suffered his injury making a tackle during Leeds' seven-try victory at Headingley on Sunday.

James McDonnell scored twice on his 100th Super League appearance for Rhinos, while Jarrod O'Connor, Tom Holroyd, Brodie Croft, Cooper Jenkins and Kallum Watkins bagged one each as Leeds bounced back from last week's 36-34 defeat to Castleford.

Bradford, who tumbled to a sixth loss in seven top-fight matches, went ahead when Guy Armitage did superbly to score from a Chris Atkin kick but Leeds hit back through McDonnell, despite the enormous blow of losing Sivo.

Jake Connor had an effort ruled out for a double movement but he created a second for McDonnell and O'Connor extended Leeds' advantage to 18-6 at half-time.

Bradford pulled one back after the break when Ethan Ryan claimed a high ball and exchanged passes with Atkin to cross but Leeds soon reasserted themselves, starting when Holroyd burrowed over after a monster 40-20 kick from Connor.

Connor converted all seven tries for Leeds, who now have 32 points after 20 games, two more than Wakefield Trinity and Wigan Warriors.

Bradford sit 12th on 12 points, two clear of Hull FC and six better off than rock-bottom Huddersfield Giants.
