Centre Chris Nero is suffering from a neck injury and is not included in Brian Noble's 19-man party for the clash in Manchester.
In the absence of Nero prop Jordan James has been drafted in, as the Reds look for a victory after suffering three successive defeats.
With only a trio of triumphs so far this campaign, the Reds find themselves stuck at the foot of the table, though they are level on points with the London Broncos and Castleford Tigers.
Widnes Vikings coach Denis Betts has also named one change following the 36-22 loss at the hands of Huddersfield last time out.
Prop Adam Lawton has been left of the match-day squad with utility back Rhys Hanbury - fresh from signing a new three-year deal with the Vikings - coming in to take his place.
Widnes enter the Magic Weekend having won three of their last five outings in all competitions and will look to put further distance between themselves and the bottom trio in the standings.
The Reds have managed just one win against the Vikings in the last five meetings between the pair and Widnes ran out 58-24 winners in their first clash this season, back in April.
