Men's doubles success is highlight of disappointing day

Britain's last remaining hope in the singles qualifying for Wimbledon, Mel South, lost 7-5 6-3 to Japan's Misaki Doi on Wednesday. There was some home success in doubles, though, as David Rice and Sean Thornley moved through to the next phase of qualifying for the men's tournament with a 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Alessandro Motti and Stephane Robert. The two female doubles pairings saw their chances come to an end. Katie O'Brien and Anna Fitzpatrick lost 6-3 6-3 to Russians Nina Bratchikova and Valeria Savinykh, while Samantha Murray and Jade Windley were beaten 6-1 2-6 7-5 by Noppawan Lertcheewakarn and Jessica Moore.
