Serbian starlet reveals offer to throw match

US Open finalist Novak Djokovic was reportedly offered £110,000 to fix a tennis match. The world number three, who lost to Roger Federer in September's final at Flushing Meadows, was offered the six-figure sum to throw the first round of a tournament in St Petersburg. Serbian starlet Djokovic refused to get involved and did not even attend the event, but the revelations are the latest to come out of ongoing investigations into betting in the sport. ATP Tour organisers have launched a probe into the betting allegations, which are centred on Russia and Ukraine. Djokovic's admission comes after bookmakers suspended bets on Nikolay Davydenko's defeat to unseeded Argentinean Martin Vassallo Arguello in Poland in August. World number four Davydenko retired from that match because of injury and has flatly denied any involvement. But ATP chiefs maintain their desire to act quickly and decisively to prevent any form of gambling scandal tainting the sport.
