Veteran to face Germans next year

Lindsay Davenport has been recalled to the United States Fed Cup side for the quarter-final tie against Germany. The news caps a fantastic 2007 for the 31-year-old, who returned to action in September after an 11 month absence following the birth of her first child. The February clash in La Jolla, California will be Davenport's first outing on home soil since the 2006 US Open. "I am honoured to represent my country on the US Fed Cup team once again," she said. My Fed Cup appearances have given me some of the best memories of my career." Team captain Zina Garrison was delighted to name Davenport on the team after being impressed by her return to form. "Lindsay is such a great Fed Cup competitor and her return to tennis last season proved her love for and commitment to the game," she said. "We are thrilled to have her back on the team. It will be exciting to watch her compete again." Davenport made her debut in 1993 and has led the US to five finals and three titles - and has not lost a match since 1994.
