Jelena Jankovic and Svetlana Kuznetsova both reached the second round of the French Open with comfortable wins.
Serbian into second round at French Open
Jelena Jankovic got her French Open campaign off to a solid start with a straight-sets success against Petra Cetkovska.
Jankovic, seeded fifth, prevailed 6-2 6-3 either side of a two-hour rain delay on Tuesday at Roland Garros.
The Serbian, a semi-finalist in Paris in each of the last two years, opened a 4-1 lead before the heavens opened above the French capital.
When the weather eventually cleared and play resumed, Jankovic closed out the first set in quick time.
She continued to dominate her Czech opponent's serve during the second set and, despite also broken twice on her own delivery, comfortably sealed the victory.
"I was controlling the points, finishing lot of points at the net," Jankovic said.
"But then we had to stop because of the rain and it's not easy to come back. I managed to finish it off in straight sets so I'm happy.
Heavy conditions
"The conditions were quite heavy because of the rain. The balls are much heavier on the court as well.
"I'm trying to improve my game, trying to get in my top form, and make these little baby steps forward.
"This is my goal for this moment. I just want to go one match at a time and try my best, give my maximum in every match, on every point."
Jankovic will play Magdalena Rybarikova in the second round.
Svetlana Kuznetsova, the seventh seed, notched a routine 6-1 6-4 triumph over French wild-card Claire Feuerstein.
The Russian, who has been in good form during the clay court season with a tournament victory in Stuttgart and final appearance in Rome, will play Galina Voskoboeva in the second round.
Wozniacki escape
Caroline Wozniacki, the 10th seed, returned to court on Tuesday and turned around her encounter with Vera Dushevina.
The Danish teenager was close to becoming a high-profile casualty on Monday evening when she trailed by a set and allowed Dushevina a break point for a 6-5 lead in the second.
However, Wozniacki saved that and took the second set before play was suspended due to fading light and returned on Tuesday to win the match 4-6 7-5 6-1.
The first two sets had been closely contested on the main Philippe Chatrier Court, but the players found themselves bumped out to Court Two for Tuesday's resumption.
And Wozniacki was soon into her rhythm, racing into a 3-0 lead in the final set.
One of the rising stars of the WTA Tour, the 18-year-old pushed on to complete victory in quickfire fashion, putting the tense moments of the previous night firmly to one side.
