American suspended for possession of HGH without exemption

Wayne Odesnik has been handed a two-year suspension by the International Tennis Federation for doping violations. The 24-year-old had not obtained a therapeutic use exemption for the banned substance HGH, of which eight vials were found in his luggage by customs officials in Australia in January. Odesnik pleaded guilty to importing the drug although insisted he had not used it at the time of its discovery, and had intended to apply for a theraputic use exemption. The world number 114 courted controversy by continuing to play on the ATP tour despite the discovery while an investigation was carried out However, his suspension has now been backdated to December 29 with his subsequent results quashed, while he must forfeit ranking points and prize-money of just over £60,000 from the tournaments he has participated in.
