Indian Super League team FC Goa have secured former Brazil captain Lucio as their first marquee signing for the upcoming season.
The 37-year-old defender has left homeland club Palmeiras to join the Indian side and will team up with Goa's Brazilian head coach Zico.
Zico lead FC Goa to second place in the eight-team group table last year before they were knocked out in the semi-finals by eventual winners Atletico de Kolkata in the competition’s inaugural season.
Lucio has played in Europe for Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, with whom he won the Champions League in 2010.
He made 105 appearances for Brazil and played every minute in the 2002 World Cup when Brazil lifted the trophy in Japan.
"Lucio has been signed as the marquee player for FC Goa as he was strongly recommended by Zico," co-owner Shrinivas Dempo said.
"We have also signed another Brazilian Andreas and are looking forward for more signings that will boost the squad."
Lucio will replace former Arsenal duo Robert Pires and Andre Santos, who were released by Goa at the end of last season.
