Northampton have completed the signing of veteran midfielder Matt Taylor on a free transfer following his release by Burnley.

The 34-year-old former Portsmouth, Bolton and West Ham man has spent the majority of his career in the Premier League and scored four times in 28 appearances to help the Clarets return to the top-flight last season.

He has signed a one-year deal with the Cobblers as Rob Page's men prepare for life in Sky Bet League One following promotion.

Page told the club's official website: "Matt is a big signing for us. He has proven quality, he is a winner, he gives us something different and he will fit in well with the other players we have at the club.

"I am also looking for him to bring some of the younger players on with his experience."
