St Johnstone have signed defender Richard Foster from Ross County.

The former Aberdeen and Rangers full-back has left the 2016 League Cup winners by mutual consent and will go straight into Tommy Wright's squad for Saturday's Premiership clash with Celtic.

No fee was involved and the 31-year-old joins fellow newcomers Michael Coulson, Blair Alston, Paul Paton and Keith Watson at McDiarmid Park.

He told the Perth club's website: "I think if you look at the past few seasons, including the Scottish Cup win which was massive, St. Johnstone are always in and around the top six and are one of the most consistent teams in the league.

"They have a good, experienced squad here and there's a lot of competition for places. But hopefully I can bring a bit of experience and get my way into the team."

Foster, whose deal runs until the end of the season, made over 230 appearances for Aberdeen over nine years since making his debut in 2003 and has been a regular for County after joining from Rangers in 2015.
