Michael Ryan has released five players from the Tipperary senior hurling panel.

Following a disappointing second-half showing in their loss to Kilkenny in the Allianz Hurling League final, Tipperary are licking their wounds ahead of the summer.

Michael Ryan awaits the return of some of his key men, with Seamus Callanan yet to feature in 2018.

The return of Noel McGrath to club action represents a boost ahead of their championship opener with Limerick on May 20.

John 'Bubbles' O'Dwyer, Dan McCormack and Patrick 'Bonner' Maher are other big names who didn't feature on the starting XV in Nowlan Park two weeks ago.

Given the new championship format this year, Ryan has stressed the need to build a panel and look at other options, and he can be reasonably pleased with the campaign as a whole, despite the crushing loss to Brian Cody's charges.

As the Munster Championship edges ever closer, Tipp have culled the panel, with five players being dropped from the side.

Hamill featured prominently throughout the League campaign in the fullback line, perhaps benefitting from Ryan opting to play Cathal Barrett in midfield.

Nonetheless, the Moyne-Templetouhy clubman's absence certainly comes as a shock to fans, given his impressive performances this Spring.
