Luca Cumani's Manighar and Drunken Sailor are all set for the Melbourne Cup.
Melbourne on agenda for Sailor and Manighar
Luca Cumani's Manighar and Drunken Sailor are set for another trip to Australia for November's Emirates Melbourne Cup.
The Italian has been fascinated by the challenge of 'the race that stops a nation', managing second-place finishes in 2008 with Bauer and with Purple Moon the previous year.
His 2010 team was intended to be triple-pronged but Bauer was ruled out on the day and Drunken Sailor missed the cut, leaving Manighar to finish seventh.
Manighar was a respectable fourth in last week's Gold Cup at Royal Ascot, while Drunken Sailor improved after a stint in Dubai to win the Aston Park Stakes at Newbury and finish third to Await The Dawn in the Hardwicke Stakes.
Cumani's daughter Francesca, who spends a good deal of time in Australia as a racing TV presenter as well as assisting with the preparation of her father's runners, revealed: "The aim is for Drunken Sailor to go back to Australia.
"He ran brilliantly to finish second in last year's Northumberland Plate and was very unlucky in the Geelong Cup.
"He missed the cut by one, and then Bauer had to be pulled out of the race on the day. He seems in the form of his life, he's a tough old horse, and the plan is to go."
She added: "We'd like to take Manighar again. He has improved physically and mentally and ran well in the Gold Cup.
"He would benefit from a strong pace, and you don't always get that in the Melbourne Cup.
"But Drunken Sailor has got a good turn of foot, so we'll see."
