Ricky Hatton's camp insist that their man won the psychological battle with Floyd Mayweather in the build-up to tonight's showdown in Las Vegas. Mayweather is the king of controversy normally during the build-up to his fights, but his antics have continually failed to rile Hatton. The Hitman has grown in confidence as time has passed, and since moving to Las Vegas for his final preparations he has shown a steely determination that he will emerge with the biggest victory of his career. Hatton has not taken a backward step during the build-up and he looked ready for action at the weigh-in, which took place in front of a huge crowd of Hatton fans. The unprecedented crowd at the weigh-in made for the most hostile of atmospheres for Mayweather, despite being in his hometown.

Weigh-in

Hatton's nutritionist Kerry Kayes says the remarkable scenes at the weigh-in were just the final victory for Hatton in the build-up to the fight. "We're on his manor," Kayes told Sky Sports News. "Wherever he goes in Las Vegas he is VIP'd and he's surrounded by people who pat him on the back and tell him how great he is. "Every encounter he's had with Ricky, both verbally and mentally, he's lost. "Don't forget this is a man who goes anywhere he wants, straight to the front of the queue, and he's come to this place now and the Brits have just booed him and slated him." Hatton's trainer Billy Graham says he was surprised by Hatton's popularity in the United States, and now insists most of America is behind the Brit. "Ricky Hatton's more popular with the Americans than Mayweather is that's for sure," said Graham.

"I was surprised by that and I didn't realize that, but I've been here a few weeks now and trust me, the vast majority of Americans wants Ricky Hatton to win." Hatton was pumped up at the weigh-in, but his father Ray later told Sky Sports News that his boy would be able to keep his cool inside the ring to ensure his game plan pays off. Hatton senior says that Mayweather will not have failed to have been shocked by the amazing scenes at the weigh-in. "He's played to the crowd, which they all loved," said Hatton senior. "And really to be quite honest Mayweather, although he didn't show it, must have been shocked by the reception he got there."
