Heavyweight duo prepare for Germany showdown

WBA heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev has agreed to put his title on the line against former champion Nikolai Valuev on May 31 in Germany. The announcement came on Monday from Universum Box-Promotion after the company won a WBA-ordered purse bid to gain control of the mandatory fight. The Uzbekistani fighter won a majority decision against 7ft Valuev last April to claim the WBA title, and has confirmed a re-match in Nuremburg. Chagaev (23-0-1, 17 KOs), who was sidelined for several months with an illness, made his first title defence on January 19 with a unanimous decision victory against England's Matt Skelton. Valuev (48-1, 34 KOs) earned his rematch with Chagaev in February after a one-sided decision against former WBO champion Sergei Liakhovich.
