Commonwealth Games: Shooting duo win gold medals, Andy Turner out of 110m hurdles

England added two more gold medals to their shooting tally as David Luckman and Dan Rivers both triumphed at the Commonwealth Games on Tuesday.

Luckman took victory in the full-bore rifle Queen's Prize individual event, while Dan Rivers clinched a shock gold in the rifle three positions.

Luckman, competing at his first Commonwealth Games, had already won the Queen's Prize pairs title on Saturday with team-mate Parag Patel.

And he has now added another gold medal to his collection, winning in the gruelling three-day, long-range discipline with a Games record score of 401-42, beating Canada's Jim Paton into second place with Patel taking bronze.

"That was as special as it gets. I've been looking to do this for a very, very long time," Luckman said.

"Parag and I were obviously looking to come here together and win the pairs which we managed to do, but for both of us to be on the podium is really good.

"It's been brilliant representing Team England. I've not done a multi-shooting event for many years, but it's been really good with other guys and it's been a proper team effort."

Rivers, meanwhile, surpassed his own expectations when he saw off Indian duo Sanjeev Rajput and Gagan Narang in the event which comprises prone, kneeling and standing.

However, there was not such could news for England in the track and field events at Hampden Park as Andy Turner and Andrew Osagie crashed out of the men's 110 metres hurdles and 800m respectively.

Defending champion Turner was left "devastated" and ready to call time on his career after hitting a hurdle and stumbling over in his heat, while world indoor bronze medallist Osagie was disqualified  for tangling with Wales' Joe Thomas.

Olympic men's long jump champion Greg Rutherford did manage to make it through to his final, while Scotland’s Eilidh Child qualified for the final of the women's 400m hurdles.
