Nick Browne signs new two-year contract with Essex

Essex opening batsman Nick Browne has signed a new two-year contract at the club.

The 25-year-old, who is being tipped for England Test honours after a prolific start to his career, will now remain at Chelmsford until the end of the 2018 campaign.

Browne has cemented his place at the top of Essex's order over the last couple of years, becoming the county's first batsman since Ravi Bopara in 2008 to surpass 1,000 first-class runs last season.

Browne, having struck six centuries in 2015, has continued his rich vein of form this term with 643 first-class runs.

Browne, who recently hit 255 against Derbyshire, said: "I would like to thank the Essex supporters, my friends and family for all their support over the last couple of years.

"I'm delighted to have signed until 2018 and incredibly happy at Essex with the huge amount of potential in this squad. We have a great group of lads who are all driving towards the same goal.

"One of the main reasons for extending at Essex is I firmly believe we have a core group of players and youngsters that can push this club to success for a long time."

Head coach Chris Silverwood added: "I'm delighted that Nick has agreed a new contract and it is great news for the club and all the members and supporters.

"Nick has developed into a senior member of the squad and I'm confident he will keep progressing to become a leading batsman for both club and country in the years to come."
