The 22-year-old, part of England's Performance Programme, was hurt during the Specsavers County Championship Division One clash with Middlesex last week.

Scans have revealed Overton, whose twin brother Craig is also a member of Somerset's first-team squad, suffered a stress fracture and will not be able to play again in 2016.

Somerset physio Jamie Thorpe said: "Jamie will begin a rehabilitation programme later in the autumn with a view to him making a full recovery and returning to cricket next season."
