Team Sky’s Danny van Poppel won stage two of the Tour de Yorkshire in a photo finish as Dylan van Groenewegen retained the overall lead.

Van Poppel beat fellow Dutchman Van Groenewegen (LottoNL-Jumbo) into second place by less than the width of a tyre in Doncaster to claim his first victory since joining Team Sky over the winter.

Ten, six and four bonus seconds were awarded to the first three finishers, which elevates Van Poppel to second in the general classification, six seconds down on Van Groenewegen.

Nikias Arndt (Giant-Alpecin) is two seconds further back in third after finishing third on the stage.

Van Poppel said: "The team did a great job. We were really motivated in the last 2km. It was really hectic and then in the last few hundred metres Dylan came really close, but I won it.
