Ajax have agreed a deal to sign Denmark midfielder Lasse Schone on a free transfer from NEC Nijmegen, the Eredivisie leaders have announced.

The 25-year-old has agreed a three-year deal in Amsterdam and is set to link up with the club when his contract at NEC expires on June 30th.

The Godenzonen have reportedly beaten off competition from a host of clubs including FC Twente, Feyenoord and Bundesliga outfit Schalke to sign Schone, who has eight caps for Denmark.

The Dane has set his sights on winning a spot in coach Frank de Boer's first-team.

"My first goal is to win a starting spot. It will not be easy, but I'll do my best," he told Ajax's official website.

Good feeling

"A good feeling is always the most important thing for me.

"Of course it was a factor that Ajax plays European football every season, but directly after the first contact I had the right feeling. That counts for me."

De Boer added of the new signing: "Lasse fits perfectly into our philosophy.

"He is a creative player who can score as well as provide assists. Those are the kind of players we keep at Ajax."

The midfielder began his senior career with Heerenveen aged 16 and has also spent time at De Graafschap.

He becomes the fourth Danish player on Ajax's books, joining compatriots Nicolai Boilesen, Viktor Fischer and reported Manchester United target Christian Eriksen.
