Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt will go to England or Spain this summer, according to the club's CEO Edwin van der Sar.

De Ligt's team-mate Frenkie de Jong has already agreed to join Barcelona at the end of the season for an initial fee of £65m, and the 19-year-old central defender has also been linked with a move to the Nou Camp.

"Frenkie de Jong is already a Barcelona footballer, while De Ligt I think will go to England or Spain," Van der Sar told Sky in Italy before Ajax were eliminated by Tottenham from the Champions League.

"I think the players also want to win something. Perhaps for the two of them it can be the last chance to win something special with our club.

"Matthijs has been here for 12 years, we hope it will be a great ending for him."

"The idea is to keep him with us next season, we do not make changes in the technical staff otherwise I would have too much work during the holidays," Van der Sar joked.

"We hope not to sell so many players, otherwise as an alternative we have players from our youth sector to replace those who leave. But we hope to sell only two or three."
